LAS VEGAS: Artsy Inspire Theater to Open Downtown

InspireTheatre_720

The revitalization of downtown continues with the opening of the Inspire Theater scheduled for the month of January. The new year will bring this hip event center in the fray with a variety of art events, as well as the opening of a newsstand café, bar, and rooftop lounge. The 150-seat theater will be host to book readings, spoken word presentations, lectures, as well as musical events.

In addition to the theater, the ground floor will be occupied by the Inspire News Café, which will operate both an international news stand and a café. The news stand will carry 300+ newspapers and magazines from around the world, a boon for international travelers and those wanting something more global than the latest issue of Newsweek or the Wall Street Journal. Rumor has it there will also be a print-on-demand press for patrons to order and have a book printed and bound while they wait. Way cool.  The café portion will serve the regular arsenal of coffee and tea beverages, as well as simple and fresh food items. The bohemian atmosphere will offer a variety of seating options, wi-fi, and even an outdoor patio.

The second floor will be home to the mid-mod Wayfarer Bar overlooking the theater that will serve up craft cocktails with a retro feel. The bar scene continues to the roof, where the aptly named “The Roof” lounge will operate. This climate-controlled outdoor lounge will allow patrons to watch the activities along Fremont Street while indulging in “communal” service, meaning large pitchers of alcoholic beverages to share table-side.

SAN DIEGO: The Declan Suites Bringing Avant Garde to Downtown

Declan_exterior

There’s a new hotel in town with some big plans for a multi-million dollar renovation. The Declan Suites has taken over the downtown Sheraton Suites, located adjacent to the San Diego Symphony Hall. While it is currently open for business, the big changes will begin in the Spring, when the new owners embark on a complete overhaul of guest rooms, conference/meeting space, restaurant and lounge.

The intent is to bring an avant garde vibe to the hotel, intertwining technology, music and the arts. The transformation will yield 264 two-room suites that will offer either a city or bay view, a signature restaurant, live feed video wall, and communal technology area. Local art will be featured throughout the property. In addition to the fully-equipped fitness center, bikes will be available for guests to use, for not only a healthy alternative (for guests and the environment) but a great way to see the city and nearby Balboa Park.

The rooms, among the largest in the city, will each have a separate sitting room. Guests will enjoy complimentary wi-fi, a full-service business center, and a skilled concierge team ready to make your San Diego visit the best it can be, from restaurant reservations to sporting events, as well as tickets to the area’s many cultural activities and family-oriented theme parks.

LAS VEGAS: Downtown Container Park Debut

Container park2

The face of downtown Las Vegas will be forever changed in the next few weeks when the new Downtown Container Park makes its debut. What began as an empty plot of land has been transformed into a vibrant, walkable retail and entertainment district composed of recycled shipping containers, a train caboose, and Xtreme Cubes which will house cafes & bars, boutiques & galleries, and so much more.

This urban revitalization is the brainchild of the Downtown Project, “a group of passionate people committed to helping to transform Downtown Las Vegas into the most community-focused large city in the world.”  This is just one of their many projects which is slowly changing the face of downtown Las Vegas, year by year.

The Downtown Container Park will be host to more than 40 tenants, including Big Ern’s BBQ, The Beatnik coffee shop, Pork & Beans, Pinches Tacos, Sasa Sweets dessert shop, Bin 702 wine bar, The Boozery, and museum stores for the Mob Museum and the Neon Museum. The space with the most flair, though, just might be Bolt Barbers, which will be housed in a vintage train caboose. There is also a children’s playground, outdoor theater, and large public art pieces (including a 40-foot preying mantis that shoots flames).
