LAGUNA BEACH: $126 Dreamy SoCal Beach Retreat at Pacific Edge

Surf Tower Remodeled Room - WaterfrontIt must be all this talk about Valentine’s Day coming up that has me thinking about overnight date nights and romantic getaways. Because I tell you the minute I saw this deal at the Pacific Edge Hotel in Laguna Beach, I almost booked it without even asking my husband if he was free. Heck, I almost booked it just for myself. Don’t tell him that – I’d much rather have him surprise me with this beachy Laguna getaway. If you want to help me, just send him the link and tell him Jen really likes this one. He’ll tell you that I like all of them, but this one does look like a lot of fun, doesn’t it?

DEAL: I found rooms starting midweek for $126/night with a AAA card. Depending on what you’re looking for, this joie de vivre hotel had a bunch of packages on offer. If you’re looking for adventure, they have a Stand Up Paddle Board package as well as a Dolphin and Whale Watching package at higher rates.

DATES: I didn’t see any deadlines with the offers. But ask them if you’re concerned.

TESTED: There are an assortment of packages on the “Specials” page that start at $165 for a “Romance Package.” But I found an even cheaper way to stay there. I clicked on the calendar (on the home page) to insert the dates I wanted, and up popped a calendar with day rates. I could easily see that February 21-23 and March 7-9 were the cheapest weekends to get a room in February and March. Midweek rates started at $140/night. I tested March 3-5 and the price of a Village Room Queen Bed dropped to $126/night if I were using my AAA card.  If I wanted to splurge on a Beachfront King sized room (pictured) it was $247.50/night including the AAA discount. Now, lets say you had a Government or Military ID – then the standard Village Room Queen Bed dropped to $112/night. Make sure to look at the room descriptions carefully. Many of the rooms are only 295 square feet and not all of them have views, but the property is right on the beach so you’re not far from the action if you’re looking at the cheapest way to get in. And I was totally drooling over the Bungalows! Note: Valet is $24 per night and there is no resort fee.

TIP FOR VALENTINES DAY SHOPPERS: If you want a bed full of rose petals and a box of chocolates, they have that too!
